Salford Citizens Advice Bureau provides a full range of benefits for our service users including weekly advice and specialist debt advice.
Salford Citizen’s Advice Bureau continue to record a higher than average success rate with regards to the challenges that we are lodging against different organisations on behalf of our service users.
They work with our staff to continually challenge negative decisions on welfare and other benefit awards. The numbers accessing the service remain consistently high.
We are fortunate to have access to a Homeless GP Service managed by Salford Primary Care Together which was setup to support the complex medical needs of service users who may find it difficult to access medical treatment. The service works in conjunction with the centre to facilitate and provide important clinical support for the most vulnerable members of our community. Good mental and physical health care is a cornerstone to achieving dignity and improved life expectancy. The Service provides a Healthcare Navigator who registers patients before booking them in to see a Doctor or Nurse. In addition to immediate clinical care they provide a wide range of support services for people in personal crisis.
This is a unique service working with high rates of alcohol related admissions and use of the emergency department at Salford Royal Hospital. The team is multi-disciplinary with a holistic, flexible approach to support patients with complex alcohol use. People using the service have a wide range of needs which often includes social isolation, homelessness, tenancy issues and chronic physical health problems.
They provide a regular drop in group weekly which aims to engage and encourage service users to access more formal support for any substance misuse problems. This is an open group which can include motivational advice, relapse prevention, harm reduction and solution focused approach techniques.
A Substance Misuse Practitioner regularly attends the centre, meeting current service users and people new to Salford. They offer harm reduction advice, including brief interventions to help someone reduce their drinking patterns, support in reducing/ceasing their substance use and referral into treatment, explaining the process and the pathway to service users.
The Salford Community Dental team provide dental services for different groups of people in society who may have difficulty finding or accessing a dentist, or difficulty accepting this treatment. This service provides a weekly clinic to our service users and is situated just outside the City Centre.
A Smoking Cessation Advisor attends the centre weekly to offer his services in reducing / stopping smoking and help with nicotine replacement treatments available via prescription voucher. Also available is access to non-nicotine treatment courses, help, support and treatment to cut down and stop smoking, free advice, information, encouragement and continued support over time.
We have a longstanding partnership with the Health Improvement Team in Salford who provides a range of activities which stimulate and enhance people’s mental and physical well being encouraging them to more fully participate within the Salford community. Over the years we have together facilitated a wide range of activities and events including leisure walks at local areas of beauty. The events encourage our service users to participate in other events run by Salford Community Leisure.
In partnership with Start in Salford (the Creative Art and Wellbeing Centre) we provide weekly inspirational arts and crafts activities giving our service users an opportunity to release their creativity, improve existing skills, learns new ones and gain in confidence. A different facilitator attends the centre each week and we feel extremely lucky to have secured this fantastic opportunity to work with Start.
